Blogging: Choosing platform

By admin | Jun 25, 2008

With more than half percentage of webpages across web listed as blogs and blogging being more than habbit, lot of new bloggers are coming into big picture. Before starting blogging, one do the research regarding the platform that can be used for the blogging. Here is better insight in blogging platforms available and the best option. As a big picture, one can treat blogging as as well as all the platforms free. There are many blogging platforms like Wordpress, Blogger, B2evolution, Bblog and blogs integrated with sites and forums. But as market currently divided in only two big players viz. Wordpress and Blogger and both are far better than other providers, it is difficult to believe that both are free services. Take example of Wordpress, upon registration with Wordpress you will get blog as yourname.wordpress.com. In case of Blogger you will get your blogging domain as second level domain as yourname.blogspot.com.

However both of these services let you host the blog on a custom domain and as time passes one realizes that it is far better to host blog on custom domain as it provide more customization options. Further it is more important to know about the reviews of both services before you go for them.

As far as customization is concerned, Wordpress provides far better customization options for bloggers. With more templates available as well as very high quality plugins out there on web, one can say Wordpress is better choice. By saying this I do not want to say Blogger is not good. Infact with many services coming under Google’s belt blogger also serves good market and good options are there too. But if blog on custom domain is the question, then wordress is the sure answer. Also if one look out for skins or themes for Blogger, it is very hard to find good professionally designed template which is not true with Wordpress.

Advantages of Blogger: Owned by google, Google applications can be integrated easily, easy options, many plugins well integrated within blog editing options as site element.

Blogger’s turn off: Less customization options as compared to Wordpress, a bit week search engine optimization, less available quality blog templates to choose from.Advantages of Wordpress: Great quality plugins available easily, highly customizable, high quality themes and templates easily available, once setup is complete it is very easy to use.

Conclusion: It does not matter that Blogger has back of Google, Wordpress is far more better than it, with more customization options, power of class plugins, advanced search engine customization and easy availablity of themes. No wonder Wordpress is also famous as inbuilt search engine optimization tool for bloggers.

In order to fully avail from the online business opportunity, one needs to be aware of he fundamentals in the field of search engine optimization that actually starts from domain name registration. Buying dedicated servers and looking for reliable web hosting plans is considered among the initial steps. Everything should be done with regard to seo

Yes it really matters on which platform you pick to make your blog. Because alot of them are not as good quality as the others. I personally like blogger, it is easy to work with and understand. You can customize the theme and loads more.

I think that more people/bloggers should follow the rule “less is more”. Simple platforms are the best.

@linksubmit: Thanks for your time for leaving comment.
@Lumpi: Well I am not sure. I used blogger for over 1.5 years but the customization and monetization is really time consuming. Wordpress in ideal platform for me. With very powerful features and plugins this platform suits me better. But after everything it is up to the blogger to choose so. Thanks for your comment.
